Even in this time of instant electronic communications, letter writing is still the most powerful tool you possess when dealing with government officials. Letters are personal communications that carry an obligation to be read, classified and kept as a permanent record. Your opinion counts when you use the power of letter writing!
The first link will take you to an example of a letter that needs to be mailed or faxed to each member of the Florida Historical Commission and the State Archaeologist. The second link is an example of a correspondence you need to mail or fax to your State Legislative Representative. Keep in mind that these examples are just suggestions. The text in each example covers the key points of the issue; however consider using it as a guideline to author each correspondence in your own words. Please be polite and respectful; express your feelings, but never be abusive.
When I write a letter of this type, I always try to imagine that I’m writing it to a Supreme Court Justice . . . it helps me set the correct tone.
